Zero Content performs spoken word that says nothing, yet everything, all at once. This group, if you care to call it that, is the brainchild of NYC's very own FLY, whose prolific art has been featured throughout the punk art community (working with Pinhead Gunpowder, Melt Banana, King Missile III, MRR and BYOFL, among many). You know her art, now get ready to hear her uncensored, in-your-face assaults.
We first saw the fury that is Zero Content at an Aus Rotten show. FLY blew us away with her sarcastic squatter poetry. Since then, she has offered up several tracks and original artwork for our "YCTM" compilation series.
FLY has been doing the spoken/unspoken word thang for a LONG time. And now, Kill The Scientist has teamed up with Zero Content to add some crazy experimental flavor to the "Six Steps to a Better You!" comp. Fly is an artist, a performer, a punk, a squatter. She has squatted New York's Lower East Side for the last decade, and was involved in the tenant's demonstrations that turned that neighborhood into a modern day war zone in the early 1990s.
Fly is a renowned artist. Her art has been seen in Magazines (SF Weekly, WW3, etc) and fanzines (Slug and Lettuce (fanzine), Maximum RocknRoll, etc) from coast to coast. Her most notable art show was recently held in the Cartoon Network studios in Burbank, California for all the cartoon artists to see. She has also done cover artwork for King Missile, Adeline Records and Geykido Comet Records. Aside from freelance cover artwork, she has printed many photocopy zines of her artwork as well as self-published actual books. Most recently Soft Skull Press released her graphic novel-style book of portraits PEOPS (2003).
Aside from visual arts, she also engages in the spoken word and musical collage art of her band Zero Content (named after one of her comic strips) which can be heard on several Geykido Comet Records Compilations. Previously, she was a member of the band God Is My Co-Pilot, for which she played bass in the 1990s.
In January 2005, she and a friend were walking on the busy streets of New York City when an SUV hit them both as they were using the cross walk with the green light, smashing her to the ground. Her self-portrait done days after the accident appeared in The Industry Standard Anthology published in mid 2005.
