Taking their name from a county road uniquely significant to the band members, Peppertown’s sound is reflective of a rural, middle American lifestyle. Originally started in 2004 as a duo by originators Scott Siefferman and Ryan Baker, Peppertown performed a mix of covers and originals. They played over 200 shows in 2005, refining the act and building a strong fan base in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. While performing at a local club in 2005, the duo was approached by Brian DeBruler and Michelle D’Amico, former rhythm section for the band Pure Grain. DeBruler asked if they were interested in working as a full band and producing a CD in his studio. Siefferman and Baker had a strong and dynamic history together and with the added chemistry of the new rhythm section, the blend seemed to be a natural. “I had worked with Scott in my studio back in 2000. I was impressed with his vocal ability at 17. When I heard him performing in 2005 I was completely blown away and with Baker on lead, their performance was very engaging.” The final step was adding the talents of local musician and friend, Artie Chaney, on bass guitar.
In two short years Peppertown has defined their sound, creating their own fine blend of blistering bluesy guitar, earthy drum jams, and solid songwriting. Since the release of “Firefly” the bands first CD, Peppertown has found its way onto radio stations across the country and is winning fans over everywhere they go. “Firefly” the first single clawed its way up the AAA radio chart to #37 in March. Not bad for an unsigned independent release. The band secured national distribution through Burnside records in Portland Oregon on DeBruler’s SOL Records label. The second single “Change my Ways” will hit radio waves in June as the band continues to build momentum. They have performed from Indiana to Myrtle Beach, SC and all points in between. Opening for the Smithereens and other established acts Peppertown is growing its fan base exponentially. Touring will continue through summer and into fall, and includes performances at a Cincinnati Reds game, festivals and club dates.
