Where do we begin … with a name like Hollie LA??? - A place she’s proud to call home - Los Angeles! Hollie was born and raised in Hollywood, CA. Her family heritage is just the opposite. Hollie’s mother (Irish/Scottish decent) was born in Northern Ireland, and her father (German/French/Cherokee Indian decent) was born in North Carolina. To get to know Hollie, we must go back in time to where her love for music began: her childhood. As a young child, she was infamous for making up songs and stories for anyone who would listen. She would surround herself with tape recorders and make her own “demo” recordings in the kitchen. For hours on end, she would perfect the recordings until she got the takes “just right” to play for her parents. Driving neighbors crazy and sometimes also her parents, she’d sing to her favorite make believe audience - day in and day out. As she grew up, throughout primary school and high school, Hollie’s passion and love for music increased. She became involved in a variety of musical productions through school and community festivals. She was the solo female vocal performer of her high school’s gospel choir - under the direction of known Big Band Conductor, J. McConnel. Further, while attending college in Southern California, Hollie studied Music and Liberal Studies and was an active part in the Chamber & Jazz Choir. As she continues to develop her passion, Hollie LA has been recognized by the independent music scene. She has been a guest performer at the South Bay Music Awards and has been nominated each year by the committee in various POP/ R&B categories. Furthermore, the Los Angeles Music Awards took notice of Hollie LA and nominated her for Soul R&B Artist of the Year. She has been a finalist in a demo singing competition put on by LA’s own Ryan Seacrest of 102.7 KIIS FM. Hollie was also blessed to sing the title song for the Fox Searchlight Film, "Roll Bounce" starring Bow Wow and Nick Cannon. Hollie continues to be the opening female act for many charity benefits and industry events throughout California. Hollie LA has collaborated with many well-known music producers: accredited multi-platinum producer, Jonathan (J.R.) Rotem (Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Game, T Pain, Rihanna, Leona Lewis, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Baby Bash, Jennifer Lopez, Cheetah Girls, Young Buck, Snoop Dogg, Tony Yayo, Oliva, Sean Kingston, Obie Trice, Stat Quo, Destiny’s Child, Dwayne Wiggins, and Lil Flip), Maureen Bailey (Producer/Songwriter for Motown/Berry Gordy), McKay Garner (MTVs Stankervision, UPNs America's Next Top Model, & Bravos -Queer Eye for the Straight Guy), Keith Senior (Michael Jackson & Zhane'), Eriq Nordquist (Brooke Valentine, Mariah Carey, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Dream, Ol Dirty Bastard, Rod Stewart, & Dionne Warwick), Mike Berens (Jill Scott, Leena, Patti Labelle, Ray Covington, Santana, Enrique Iglesias). Hollie LA’s debut EP album “Unlocked,” being released in 2009, will offer all ages listening pleasure. One thing Hollie doesn’t do: is put herself in a box – “I create and write music that reflects who I am and not what everyone else is doing at the moment.” She takes risks to create music without limits and boundaries. “At the end of the day, that’s all we can do, is be the best we can be!” Talented music producer and friend, Kosta Lois and Hollie have been collaborating on this much anticipated release. Her Debut EP entitled “Unlocked” contains new textures and flavors that are inspired not only from her and Lois’ musical influences but also from their own personal artistry. “Unlocked” definitely has taken on a life of its own – it’s emotional, personal, full of character and wisdom. Hollie’s lyrics and melodies at times are saucy -very tongue and cheek – just listen to “Domesticate It” and “Love Debt” for a taste! On the flip side, her ballads such as “Invisible Chains” and “Fame,” expose a more serious and vulnerable side. Her musical influences play a big part in the album as well. They vary from well-respected legends such as Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington and Etta James; to current day artists such as Madonna, Mariah Carey, Mary J Blige, Alicia Keys and the late Aaliyah. Just like her favorite artists, she too wants to provide inspiration to thousands. Through her own life experiences, she has found words to put to song backed up by the full power of her voice.
