PRESS RELEASE:
Less Like Penguins, Bernie Bernie Headflap’s 2nd full-length album, has finally been released in the popular CD format!
2007 is the 15th anniversary of the formation of
Bernie Bernie Headflap. What better way to celebrate, thought lead singer and primary songwriter Alan McCabe, than to finally release those three CDs recorded between 1996 and 2000 which were only ever released as MP3.com Digital Automatic Music (DAM) CDs and never really saw the light of day?
And now this thought has become reality. The first of those three CDs, 1998’s
Less Like Penguins has just been released by
Human Inhuman Records and is available for you to purchase on
CDBaby.com! (See link and cover art directly to left.)
It is newly mastered, contains 20 tracks in all -- the 17 tracks that the original release had, plus 3 bonus tracks not available on the original -- and features all new artwork based on the idea that McCabe pictured right from the beginning of the project.
This CD captures a transitional moment in time.
At this point in the BBH chronicles, McCabe was still performing live with a band. Here, it is a five-piece. McCabe plays the rhythm 6 string guitar, and is rejoined by Paul Chell, whose 12 string work fans will recognize from BBH’s debut album
Cheese on Wheat.
Here, Chell adds some searing lead work to his arsenal. Fans of Cheese on Wheat will be surprised and very possibly disappointed to learn that the rhythm section is new, but fear not because Tim McCoy on bass and BOTH drummers Joe “Fuzzy D.” DeRosa and Mike “Rock” Carr handle their roles more than capably.
And fans of Bernie Bernie Headflap’s one man band phase will be surprised, too. This is a way more angry sound. Frenetic. Anxious. Explosive. Cathartic. But the cerebral, quirky elements are still there in the lyrics. If you like the adventurous side of pioneering indie rock acts of the nineties, like Pavement, Lilys, Sonic Youth and Swirlies, pick this puppy up right away!
You don’t have to be a scenester!
People who never heard of this band and frankly don’t know the Who from Who Made Who or Jack White from Jack Black or Frank Black from Black Eyed Peas........well just get it ‘cause it ROCKS!
