The Legend of Kenny Loggins "Craphat"
DATE: 27 Oct 2008, 1:52 pm / MOOD: Doppleganger (Dr. Pants)

Okay, first of all, let me be clear that it is CRAP HAT, just as one word. In case you haven't listened to the song yet.

I (David) am from Oklahoma City, but back in high school and college (especially in college) I had a number of friends who lived in Tulsa. I used to go to Tulsa for a day or two on breaks from school--Christmas, Spring Break, etc.

My Tulsa friends were inspiring, to say the least. Most certainly a creative, hipster brand of people. One of them, Brian Byrne, played guitar in the first incarnation of Dr. Pants. Some of the stuff they came up with is classic and survives to this day (at least, in my mind it certainly does). Kenny Loggins "Craphat" is a perfect example.

The story goes like this: one night said group of friends were sitting at Village Inn (the 24 hour restaurant of choice). This was not an unusual occurrence. Whatever discussion they were in most likely reached a lull, and a man named Tom, out of nowhere pipes up with: "Hey, did you guys know that Kenny Loggins put out an album in the seventies called "Kenny Loggins-Craphat"? And that on the front cover he was literally wearing a hat that looked like it was made out of shit?" Outlandish as this tale was, it certainly pales in comparison to the fact that the rest of my friends present at the time BELIEVED HIM. I mean, had I been there I probably would have WANTED to believe him...Kind of an unlikely story, but not altogether implausible. I mean, some of the album covers from the seventies are pretty ridiculous, aren't they? Is the "Craphat" concept really that much more obnoxious than, say, "Sloppy Seconds" by Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show (go look that one up)?

So, fast forward to 24 hours later when said group of folks is back at (you guessed it) Village Inn once again. Tom breaks it to them that he made it up. This, of course, makes it all the more awesome and brilliant.

This is how I remember it...and I heard it second hand to begin with, so people who were there for real may want to add addenda to my story. Go for it. But this urban legend simply must be retold, and simply had to be immortalized in song. Hence the third verse of "Kenny Loggins", from our new release, THE CUSACK-LOGGINS EP. Enjoy.

CD RELEASE THIS SATURDAY!! CUSACK-LOGGINS NOW STREAMING!!
DATE: 27 Oct 2008, 1:51 pm / MOOD: Doppleganger (Dr. Pants)

CD RELEASE THIS SATURDAY!! CUSACK-LOGGINS NOW STREAMING!!
Current mood: inspired

So, first of all, a friendly reminder that our CD release for THE CUSACK-LOGGINS EP is this coming Saturday, November 1st, at CD Warehouse, NW 39th and Penn. It's 5 bucks, and starts at 8:30 pm. We really hope you will be able to make it. Rock like this only happens on rare occasions, I'm telling you.

Also, all 6 tracks from the new EP are streaming on doctorpants.com!! Go to www.doctorpants.com/music.html to listen, or just go to the home page and click the "listen" link in the nav bar at the top of the page. I also hope to have a blog entry on the news/blog page (and on SONICJIVE ) by the end of the day explaining the LEGEND OF KENNY LOGGINS "CRAPHAT". That way, you can all be in on the joke, and you can tell all your friends when they ask you "What is he saying? What does Craphat mean?" So anyway, go listen to the record and get primed to OWN IT.

Also, we're looking for a venue to do our annual (in theory, anyway) DECEMBER MADNESS show here in OKC, probably on the second weekend in December. We do have at least one lead, but we're looking to put something definite on the books by the end of the week. If any of you have suggestions, ideas, or a venue you could hook us up with, let us know.

See you Saturday!
David, Kenneth, Aaron, Dustin
